BRIEF INSIGHT ABOUT OOLONG TEA

Dear readers ,

Today Iam sharing with you all once more about  a unique tea OOLONG .In the previous blog I did mention about this tea  but today we will be exploring the world of oolong specifically. The characters for oolong are in chinese (WU Meaning black, LONG meaning DRAGON).

OOLONG  is neither a black or a green tea , but it is being processed in between. But it is a classic tea.  Iam going to demystify oolong  the birthplace, the producing countries, brewing , and the golden rule of tea. Whether you are a seasoned tea enthusiast or just beginning to explore the world of OOLONG ,this post will provide a valuable insight and the tips for enjoying this tea

BIRTHPLACE :

China ( Fujian mountain). Served as tea cakes, famous to the emperors of SONG DYNASTY (960-1279 CE)The next story is during QING DYNASTY (1644-1912CE)where the town folk abandoned their crops and allowed the leaves to fully oxidized..The final story was named from the WUYI MOUNTIAN range where it was documented in the 12 century, MING DYNASTY.

COUNTRIES PRODUCING OOLONG

TAIWAN :Small island directly across the South China sea from the Fujian province of China. The temperate climate with an average rainfall over 79 inches , the western regions are ideal for growing tea. The beautiful high mountain Taiwanese oolong are DONG DING, ALI SHAN, SHAN LIN XI.

CHINA:The Rock oolong from the WUYI mountains retains the mineral flavours of their rocky high altitude soil .You can try DA HONG PAO OR QI LAN WUYI.

INDIA: In India very few estates produce oolong tea .In Assam only 2 estates produce this variety. In Darjeeling quite a number of tea estates with their own   style and technique produces best quality oolong . Most of it is secretly  guarded  due to its intricate processing.

VEILROMA TEAS procures HIGH MOUNTAIN OOLONG TEA from a single estate in Darjeeling .The cold weather at high altitude slows the growth of the tea trees , concentrating the aromatic oils in the leaves. The fog is an added advantage , it keeps the leaves moisture and soft so it remains supple and aids in processing. The tea leaves are rolled traditionally that brings a special character to the tea.

BREWING IN INDIAN STYLE (HOT)

YOU CAN BREW  OUR OOLONG TEA ,THE SAME LEAF, TWO TO THREE TIMES IN DAY .

  • DO NOT REFRIGERATE THE BREWED LEAF.
  • YOU CAN SIMPLY STAIN THE TEA AND KEEP IT COVERED IN AN INFUSER .
  • BETTER TO KEEP THE LEAVES IN THE PORCELAIN POT WITHOUT WATER.
  • USE IT AT ANY TIME OF THE DAY .JUST ADD HOT WATER.THE NEXT STEEPING TIME WILL BE 1 / 2 MINUTES MORE AS PER YOUR OWN PREFERANCE.

GOLDEN RULE

  • Brew your tea in a porcelain pot or clay pot.
  • Avoid brewing in stainless steel or any other metal.

WATER  :The mother of any TEA IS THE WATER .USE FRESH WATER ALWAYS . DO NOT OVERBOIL THE WATER . HARD WATER TO BE AVOIDED .

The leaves are traditionally  rolled , so we  recommend a larger infuser than a normal one to brew your cup of oolong tea. You will notice as your tea brews that the tightly furled rolls open to reveal large full leaves . Always make sure your leaves have plenty of room to unfurl and interact with the water. This is the magical oolong.

Brewing time : Approx  4 to 5 minutes.(Strong liquor), 1 minute less if you want a lighter liquor.

PRICE : VEILROMA VIBRANT DARJELING OOLONG TEA RS 850 .(ORGANIC, HIGH ALTITUGE , GI TAG TEA).
